COALINGA — Olivia Marsing homered and drove in four runs, and Alexis Espinoza pitched a complete game as Coalinga College defeated Merced College 10-5 at home in a Central Valley Conference game on Thursday.
Marsing went 1 for 3 but delivered the big blow of the game — a two-run home run — and added a sacrifice fly among her four RBIs. Maleah Duran Ojeda also went deep for the Falcons, finishing 2 for 4 with a double, a home run and an RBI. Breanna Cisneros went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs.
Coalinga jumped on Merced starter Lexyss Sabin early, scoring three in the first, four in the second and one in the third to build a commanding 8-2 lead through three innings. The Falcons added two more in the fifth for good measure.
Ashley Rudziewicz had a standout day at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a double and scoring three times. Brooke Peterson and Bryton Loflin each contributed RBI hits, with Loflin doubling and driving in one.
Espinoza went the distance in the circle for the Falcons, allowing five runs — three earned — on 10 hits while striking out two in a seven-inning complete-game win.
With the win, Coalinga improved to 13-20 overall and 5-8 in the CVC. The Falcons have now won three of their last four games.
