Falcons’ offense makes history in 69-6 win at Gavilan

GILROY – Coalinga College picked up its biggest win of the season, a 69-6 rout at Gavilan College on a record-setting Saturday in Gilroy.

The offense set as new school record with 747 total yards while rushing for a program-best 414 yards. The Coalinga defense, not to be outdone, allowed just five first downs and 115 yards all game.

"We dominated from start to finish," said Coalinga head coach Justin Berna. "It was a complete team win in all three phases."

According to Berna, the 69 points scored on Saturday were also likely a school record as well.

Running back Demarion Wright added to the historical day. He eclipsed the 1,000 yards rushing mark after going for 188 yards on 22 carries with a pair of touchdowns. He also caught a 23-yard TD, giving him three on the day.

Quarterback Justyn Delzeit put together an efficient game under center as he completed 14 of 17 passes for 296 yards with 4 TDs and no interceptions. His top target Khalif Bloome hauled in 4 receptions for 124 yards, including a 39-yard touchdown.

The Falcons led 21-6 after the first quarter and were up 34-6 at halftime. After Gavilan got its lone touchdown on a fluke tipped ball with 48 seconds left in the first, Coalinga went on to score the next 48 points.

Joseph Espinoza came up with the big play on defense, running back an interception 46 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

With the win, the Falcons improved to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the American Golden Coast League. They will wrap up the regular season next Saturday (Nov. 8) at home against Merced College. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
