COALINGA – The Coalinga College football team surged to its fifth straight win, an impressive 49-0 victory over visiting Hartnell College on Saturday at the Memorial Bowl.
The Falcons, who started the season dropping their first two games, are now 5-2 overall and are tied for the lead in the American Golden Coast League standings at 2-0.
Coalinga dominated both sides of the ball in the contest. The Falcons totaled 475 yards of offense, marking the third straight game and fifth overall this season reaching 400+ yards while the 49 points scored were a season-high.
Running back Demarion Wright had a huge game, rushing 15 times for 100 yards while scoring 3 touchdowns. Wide receiver Khalif Bloome was just as impressive as he hauled in nine receptions for 138 yards (15.3 avg.) with 2 TDs.
Quarterback Justyn Delzeit put together another solid start, throwing for 188 yards on 14 of 20 passing with 3 TDs and no interceptions. Delzeit added a touchdown pass to Marcos Ruiz in the first quarter and Erik Cervantes also ran in for a touchdown.
The Coalinga defense limited Hartnell (2-5, 0-2 GCL) to 180 yards in the shutout. The Falcons recovered 3 fumbles, had 2 sacks, as well as an interception. Jackson Kissee and Gavin Brady both had 8 tackles each to lead Coalinga. Kosuke Nakata and Elijah Jones had sacks, and Joseph Espinoza came away with the interception.
Coalinga will face its biggest challenge of the season next Saturday (Oct. 25) when the Falcons travel to unbeaten De Anza College (7-0) for a huge Golden Coast League game in Cupertino at 1 p.m.
