Falcons wrap up season with 6-2 win at Taft

TAFT — Haruki Nakano drove in three runs and Rudy Amaya pitched six strong innings as Coalinga College beat Taft College by a final score of 6-2 on Friday at Cougar Field in both teams' season finale.

Nakano went 3 for 3 with a double, a stolen base and a sacrifice fly to lead the Falcons at the plate. He opened the scoring in the first with an RBI single that plated Teruki Kato, who had doubled to lead off the frame. In the third, Nakano singled to set up a two-run single by Rey Garcia that pushed the lead to 3-0. He added a sacrifice fly in the fourth and a run-scoring double in the sixth to complete his afternoon.

Garcia finished 1 for 5 with 2 RBI. Kato reached base three times, scoring twice.

Coalinga built a 5-0 cushion in the fourth when Noah Castro delivered an RBI single to score Kade Gerboc-Chun. The Cougars answered later that inning with back-to-back RBI singles by J'Den Briones and William Glover to cut the deficit to 5-2, but Amaya and the Coalinga bullpen did not allow another run the rest of the way.

Amaya, who improved to 4-3, allowed two earned runs on five hits, walked two and struck out four over six innings. Tanner Tammarine struck out two in the seventh, Naoki Adachi worked a scoreless eighth, and Isaac Flores closed it out in the ninth.

The Falcons closed out the 2026 season with a 16-24 overall record. Coalinga finished in sixth place in the final Central Valley Conference standings with an 8-16 mark.
