COALINGA — Kota Watanabe pitched 5 1/3 innings while Isaac Flores delivered at the plate and on the mound as Coalinga College defeated visiting Antelope Valley College 6-3 in a non-conference game on Tuesday.

Flores, who played first base and went 2 for 5 with an RBI, also closed out the final two innings on the mound, striking out three in a perfect outing to earn his fourth save. Tanner Tammarine bridged the gap between Watanabe and Flores with 1 2/3 scoreless innings.

Coalinga broke through in the third when Teruki Kato singled home Ryne Yoshimura, who had stolen second base to put himself in scoring position. The Falcons added two more in the fourth on RBI singles by Carlos Perez and Connor Towns, then blew the game open with a three-run fifth that included an RBI single by Julian Gonzalez and a passed ball that scored Rey Garcia.

Antelope Valley made things interesting in the sixth when Brandon Hennessy doubled home two runs and Drew Watkins followed with a run-scoring double, trimming the deficit to 6-3. But Coalinga's bullpen retired nine of the final 10 batters to preserve the win.

Kato finished 2 for 5 with an RBI and a stolen base. Towns also went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Yoshimura reached base twice and scored once.

Watanabe allowed three runs — all in the sixth — on eight hits while striking out four in earning the victory. Antelope Valley starter Aidan Morgan took the loss, giving up six runs, four earned, on 10 hits over 4 1/3 innings.

The Falcons' win snapped a six-game losing streak and improved the sqaud to 11-14 overall. The Falcons are back in action on Wednesday (Mar. 18) when they travel to Santa Barbara City College for a non-conference game.
