Falcons Rally For Home-Opening Win

The West Hills Falcons overcame a shaky first set and rallied for a 2017 home-opening victory, 3-1, against visiting Modesto Junior College on Wednesday night.

An exciting match (14-25, 25-22, 29-27, 26-24) thrilled a packed WHCC gymnasium, as the final three sets could have went either way. In the end, the Falcons proved too much for the all-freshmen Pirates.

Sophomore OH Neisha Butler led the way with a team-high 15 kills and 13 digs. She also had five of the team's nine service aces.

Sophomore MB Brittany Dias added nine kills, while freshmen setters Chelaine Cates (20 assists, 15 digs) and Taylor Ramos (17 assists, 9 digs) were effective on offense and defense.

The Falcons improved to 2-5 on the season, while the Pirates (3-3) could not repeat the earlier result on August 26 - when they defeated WHCC at its home tournament by a 3-1 score.
