WHCC Falcons tops Hartnell in back-and-forth affair, 5-4

WHCC Falcons and Hartnell passed the lead back and forth five times on Monday at Coalinga, CA, but in the end WHCC Falcons pulled out a 5-4 win in seven innings over Hartnell.

WHCC Falcons took the lead in the seventh inning and held on for the victory. A two-run error scored Ashley Brown and Vanesa Morales and gave WHCC Falcons the lead for good.

WHCC Falcons would not relinquish the lead as Hartnell was unable to weather a three-run seventh inning deficit.

Still, Hartnell couldn't draw even.

WHCC Falcons' Valerie Romero was perfect at the dish laying down two bunt for hits, going 2-2. She singled in the third and fifth innings.

Chase Martinez recorded the win for WHCC Falcons. She allowed four runs over seven innings. Martinez struck out none, walked three and gave up 10 hits.

Kaitlin Doyle couldn't get it done on the rubber for Hartnell, taking a loss. She lasted just 6 2/3 innings, walked three, struck out five, and allowed five runs.

The top of the first saw Hartnell take an early lead, 1-0. Doyle got things going for Hartnell with a single. A stolen base then moved Doyle from first to second.

WHCC Falcons tied the game in the second on an RBI single by Morales that scored Brown.

WHCC Falcons scored two runs in the fifth inning, and then followed it up with two more in the seventh. In the fifth, WHCC Falcons scored on a walk byHannah Martell, plating Felicia Remulla.
