Rodeo Update

The West Hills College Coalinga Rodeo Team continues to make huge strides this 2016-2017 season.

The men's team is ranked No. 7 in the nation and the women's team is No. 19. Among programs on the West Coast, the men are No. 2 and the women are No. 3.

It has been a great season thus far with many outstanding performances at all of the Fall Season rodeos. To list a few: Edgar Machado is currently sitting in first place in the Steer Wrestling and eighth in the Tie Down Roping as a result of his consistency at the four rodeos competed in.

Jacob Lees and Finn Costa are holding down second and third place in the Bareback Riding; and Brushton Minton is second place in the Team Roping, fourth in the Steer Wrestling, and seventh in the Tie Down Roping - putting him in a great position for the regions all-around race.

Others that have competed at a high level and continue to win or place: Armando Fagliano is third in Bull Riding; Cash Robinson is fourth in the Saddle Bronc Riding; and the Team Roping team of Caden Lehman and Edgar Machado are sitting in fifth place in the regional standings.

On the women's side, there are many successes as well. The leading point-getter so far is Cierra Hubbard who is currently sitting in fourth place in the Goat Tying with Cassidy Barnes closely behind in sixth place and Abigayle Hampton rounding out the top ten.

Cheyenne Horner is in the number four position in Barrel Racing and the Lady Falcons are stacked deep in the Breakaway Roping with Amanda Barnard (#3), Jocelyn Saco (#4), Cassidy Barnes (#7), and Cheyenne Horner (#8) inside of the top ten in the West Coast Regional Standings.

Falcons head coach Justin Hampton said the program continues to garner regional and national attention.

"We have had several successful events at the Rodeo Facility this semester and these specific events continue to support our needs of offering scholarship assistance to current and future student rodeo athletes. The WHCC Rodeo Boosters are a group of individuals that work extremely hard in order for these events to take place and I would like to name a few: Roger and Karen Campbell, Mark and Terry Yanez, Carole Morrow, Ray and Terry Richardson, Walt and Kathy Jensen, and Lisa Culbertson. They spend countless hours running a very demanding snack shack during our Booster Events and their help is amazing."

"We are proud of all of our student-athletes as they have worked hard in the classroom to stay academically ahead in order to be able to compete at the college rodeos. We have a big group and a state of the art facility which has been a determining factor in the successes of our program."
