The West Hills College Coalinga Falcons open their 2018 Central Valley Conference home schedule on Wednesday against Porterville College at 6 p.m.

WHCC also returns to the state's top 10 - with a No. 8 ranking in the California Community College Men's Basketball Coaches Poll. The Falcons (2-0 CVC, 11-2 overall) are the No. 4 team in Northern California.

Two other teams in the CVC are 2-0 (No. 3 Fresno and Columbia), while Porterville and Cerro Coso are 1-1; and Sequoias, Reedley and Merced have started 0-2.

The Falcons will host Porterville (6-7 overall) and Cerro Coso (5-8) this week.

Head Coach Mark Arce has guided WHCC to one of the best starts in school history. After an eight-game winning streak was snapped on Dec. 15 at Mt. San Jacinto, the Falcons have won three in a row.

The team's current winning percentage (.846) is the third-best in the CCCAA, behind Gavilan College (15-1, .938) and defending state champion San Diego City College (19-2, .905). Gavilan's only loss came against Porterville.

WHCC averages 87.7 points per game, ranking second in Northern California. Porterville ranks third (86.4 ppg).

Sophomore wing Darrius Scott ranks third among CVC players in scoring with 17.1 points per game. Sophomore guard Lloyd Hanna (photo) ranks eighth at 14.2 ppg.
