Falcons Claim San Diego Mesa Tournament Title

The West Hills College Coalinga basketball team went 3-0 to capture the San Diego Mesa Tournament last weekend.

The Falcons (8-4) upset East Los Angeles College, 73-70, in overtime of the championship final. The Huskies (9-4) were ranked No. 10 in Southern California and No. 20 in the state.

Freshman wing Darius Scott led the way with 18 points and sophomore point guard Troy Arce added 14.

West Hills also won an overtime game during the semifinals against Santa Ana College. The Falcons escaped with an 84-81 victory behind sophomore forward Romario Saunders (30 pts) and Arce (17 pts).

In the opening round, the Falcons beat Victor Valley College, 62-57. Scott scored a team-high 19 points and Sauders added 10.

 

UP NEXT: The Falcons will open the 2017 Central Valley Conference schedule with two homes games – Wednesday (Jan. 4) against Porterville and Saturday (Jan. 7) versus Fresno. Both games will start at 6:00 p.m.
