With the support of the West Hills College Coalinga campus community, the Falcons men's basketball program collected $1,517 during its 2017 Coaches vs Cancer campaign - raising money for the American Cancer Society.
Proceeds from its Feb. 8 home game against Merced included gate receipts, t-shirt and concession sales (from WHCC Baseball), Falcon Flyers, and donations.
Since 2012, coach Mark Arce's program has donated nearly $10,000 for the ACS - placing WHCC among the state leaders. Arce is a longtime member of the California Community College Men's Basketball Coaches Association, a group that partners with ACS along with the NCAA.
"On behalf of the WHCC athletic department, we want to thank the many fans - including parents and students - who have participated with our Coaches vs Cancer campaigns each year," said associate dean of athletics Eric Mendoza.
"Along with our other CCCAA partners, we are honored to contribute to a worthy cause. We have so many families in our community who have been afffected by cancer. We will continue to do our part, as Falcon Athletics continues to gather the community for these events throughout the year."
