Mike joined WHCC earlier this summer as an assistant on the football staff after 20 years coaching sports at Mendota and Firebaugh High Schools - and began duties as Equipment & Event Coordinator in September.
He was also shift manager at the Tomatek/Neil Jones Food Company in Firebaugh for 10 years – supervising workers and quality control.
During his coaching career at Firebaugh High School (2001-2016), Mike was softball varsity head coach and football assistant varsity head coach/offensive coordinator. His star pupil is Josh Allen (since age 9), the current University of Wyoming quarterback projected to be a top pick in next spring’s NFL Draft.
At Mendota High School (1994-1997, 2016-2017), Mike was assistant varsity offensive coach in charge of quarterbacks, running backs and special teams.
He has collected numerous championships, including three straight softball league titles (all undefeated seasons) at Firebaugh – leading the school to its first-ever Valley title appearance.
Over the years, Mike has been a youth coach, league director, and umpire for softball, baseball, basketball and camp founder of football camps for children with special needs. He also worked for Firebaugh’s Police Activities League and the Boys & Girls Club.
Mike is a former amateur boxer. With a record of 151-16, “Iron Mike” competed in Golden Gloves and the Junior Olympics.
He is the proud father of four children – three sons (including twins) and a daughter.
