WHCC All-American Earns CCCAA's Highest Honor

The postseason awards for the West Hills College Coalinga football program continue with Wednesday's announcement from the CCCAA Office in Sacramento.

WHCC All-American Apefai "Junior" Taifane was named CCCAA Male Scholar Athlete for 2017 - the highest honor for any student-athlete of the state's 26,000 annual participants.

Taifane will be recognized for his athletic and academic achievements at the CCCAA Convention in Concord on March 28.

He recently completed his sophomore season with a perfect 4.0 GPA, his A.A. degree, and earned a scholarship to play football at Cal Poly.

Taifane was nominated by Falcons director of sport operations - head football coach Justin Berna, athletic counselor Erin Corea, and associate dean of athletics Eric Mendoza.

"We are very proud of Junior and all of the things he was able to accomplish on and off the field at West Hills College Coalinga," Berna said.

"He dedicated himself to the classroom, prepared as an unselfish and coachable player, and worked hard to set the best example for his team and his family. We look forward to following Junior's career at Cal Poly and beyond as he continues to excel."
