The West Hills College Coalinga volleyball team posted back-to-back victories last week – moving into fourth place in the Central Valley Conference.
The Falcons won 3-1 at Cerro Coso College (9/21) and swept Reedley College, 3-0, (9/23) to cap a perfect week.
Against the Coyotes, freshmen MH Brittany Dias (Sierra Pacific) had a match-high 13 kills and freshman OH Sahily Marin (McFarland) added 11 kills, nine digs, and three aces to lead the way.
Freshman setter Sierra Allen (Hanford West) recorded 38 assists and 11 digs; freshman libero Alex Smith (Sierra) tallied 29 digs; and freshman DS Maria Castellanos added 14 digs.
WHCC dominated early and held on to win 25-8, 25-22, 14-25, 25-22.
The Falcons followed with an even more impressive performance against Reedley in front of an enthusiastic home crowd on Friday night.
Dias was 11-of-18 on kills attempts (.500) – while four other Falcons combined for 26 kills: freshman OH Selena Gaza (8), Marin (7), freshman RS Racheal Wellemeyer (6), and freshman MH Jenny Soria (5).
Allen posted a match-high 25 assists, and Smith led both teams with 14 digs.
The three-game sweep (28-26, 25-17, 26-24) was a first in a long time against the Tigers.
"It was a great week for West Hills volleyball," said head coach Jeff Wanderer.
"Our team has really improved since the start of the season, and everyone is contributing to our success. The confidence continues to grow, so we need to keep building off this momentum."
The Falcons improved to 2-2 in the CVC.
Up next, the team will play at College of the Sequoias (9/28) before returning home to play Merced College (10/5).
