Falcons Closing On CVC Leaders

With the first round of Central Valley Conference coming to an end, the West Hills Falcons have a chance to join the top of the pack.

The Falcons host Merced College on Wednesday (Oct. 5) – with sole possession of fourth place on the line.

Fresno City College and College of the Sequoias remain undefeated in CVC play at 5-0 and Taft College is 4-1.

Merced battled COS in a tough five-set loss last week, dropping to 3-3.

The Falcons (2-3) continue their 2016 season, as the conference's most improved team – led by mostly a freshman class.

First-year players MH Brittany Dias (Sierra Pacific) and OH Sahily Marin (McFarland) led the offense in kills. Dias is averaging 1.82 kills per game, while Marin is at 1.71 per game.

Defensively, the team continues to flourish, with three freshman players ranking among the Top 25 in digs.

Libero Alex Smith (Sierra) ranks fifth in the CVC with 3.59 digs per game; DS Maria Castellanos (Coalinga) ranks No. 16 with 2.35; and OH Selena Garza is No. 24 with 1.89.

Freshman setter Sierra Allen (Hanford West) ranks sixth in the CVC with 6.06 assists per set.
