The upcoming 2010 season marks the 30th year for Coach Hodsdon as a Head Baseball Coach and the tenth year at the helm as the coach for the West Hills Falcons. In the previous nine years under Coach Hodsdon, the Falcon baseball program has sent a total of 49 players to the four year level to continue their education and playing career. Also during this period, the Falcons have produced 36 All Central Valley Conference players, two All- American players, and a total of 8 players who have either been drafted or eventually gone on to play professional baseball. Coach Hodsdon strongly emphasizes academics with all players committed to attending study hall on a bi-weekly basis. The Falcon baseball program is currently a finalist for the top academic community college baseball program in the state of California for the 2008/2009 academic year. During that academic year, The Falcons achieved a cumulative 3.1 G.P.A. .
Prior to coming to West Hills College in 2000, Coach Hodsdon was the head coach at Hanford High School for ten years. During that 10 year period, the Bullpups won 7 West Yosemite League championships and 1 CIF Section championship. In 1995, Coach Hodsdon’s team was ranked as high as #10 in the country by Baseball America. They were also ranked #1 in the State of California in Div.2 by Cal Hi Sports on two different occasions. Coach Hodsdon was one of four finalists for California State Coach of the Year in 1995. He was also named the Fresno bee high school Coach of the year in 1994 and earned a total of seven different Coach of the Year awards during his ten years at Hanford High School.
Coach Hodsdon’s career as a head coach began in 1981 in Fallon, Nevada, when he took the reins for the Fallon Greenwave. He also served as an assistant principal and Dean of Boys. His teams won four league titles and two Nevada State championship runner-ups. Hodsdon earned five different Coach of the Year awards while guiding the Greenwave.
In 1977, Coach Hodsdon was hired as a fulltime assistant at his alma mater, The University of Nevada, Reno. He served in this position until 1979. He played baseball for the Wolfpack in 1973 and 1974. His senior year in 1974, Coach Hodsdon was an All West Coast Athletic Conference selection while breaking school records in doubles, runs batted in, and slugging percentage. He graduated from UNR with a B.A. in English and P.E., and later a master’s degree in Education Administration. After his playing career at Nevada- Reno, Coach Hodsdon signed professional contracts with the Eugene Emeralds, San Francisco Giants, and the California Angels.
Coach Hodsdon was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada and graduated from Western High School. He and his wife Cathy have two sons, Derek, 25, and Travis 28. Both were former baseball players for the West Hills Falcons.
